Let’s Talk About Our Community!

Talking is Teaching: CommunityLearning about the places we live and the people we live with are important building-blocks to our sense of belonging. For children, understanding community begins with family connections. Secure, supportive and loving relationships are key to a child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. A healthy sense of belonging can help shape children’s sense of self and identity, and can further help them connect to extended families, friends, cultural groups, neighborhoods, and communities. After developing a sense of self through strong familial bonds, meeting and getting to know the people in their neighborhood can help children feel that their community is a safe and friendly place to live – providing them a sense of place in the wider world.
